All of the Service Learning classes had the opportunity to help out with Back Pack Program at the Omaha Food Bank, where over 4200 lunches were served at the ending of the school year 2012. This year for the fiscal year 2013, they need 6400 lunches by year end.
Students work along side of each other, filling bags made up of 2 milks, a juice, 2 bowls of cereal, 2 Chef Boy Ardees, and a fruit cup, for food for Heartland school children. Last quarter some of our students packaged frozen meats that would be distributed to local shelters and people in need.
One out of Five people suffer from food insecurities and the need continues to increase.

Service Learning Class 501 / 502 spent a couple of hours working with the BackPack for Kids lunch. They managed to bag food for 632 children. That is a record!!! Close to three full pallets. These students are amazing!!

The food bank sent over 12.3 million pounds of food to its region in the fiscal year 2012.
